Drinking

Friday, May 14, 2010 - 12:00 AM

Hey look, it's the world's first self-administered intervention done in the context of a comic strip! You ever do that, Harvey Pekar? I didn't think so.

In all seriousness, drinking too much is pretty awful, but it's sometimes really hard to figure out the point where drinking goes from Fun to Terrible. Sometimes it probably comes across that this comic says "HEY JUST DRINK ALL THE TIME BECAUSE SCREW EVERYTHING" but that's kinda dumb if you think about it.

And me being half-Cherokee, half Irish-German, I gotta watch it. When I was a kid I used to dread coming home from school because my dad would be drunk when I got home. He hid bottles of cheap whiskey in the toolbox in his truck and would basically tug off it constantly, even during the daytime. Honestly I think drinking pretty much ruined my dad permanently, and I'm not even as old as he was when I was born.

So the point is, getting drunk is pretty awesome sometimes but getting drunk all the time is pretty dumb. I think my new philosophy regarding this is:

USE DRUGS OCCASIONALLY BUT ONLY AT NIGHT
AND GET AT LEAST SIX HOURS OF SLEEP

Sounds reasonable?
